τρί-βολος, dreispitzig, dreizackig, ἄκων, Hesych. – Als subst. 1) ὁ τρίβολος, eine eiserne Spitze, in die Fersen zu stechen, eine Fußangel, Polyaen. 1, 39, 2; auch eine Spitze von Eisen am Pferdezaum. – Wegen der Aehnlichkeit eine stachlige Wasserpflanze, Wassernuß, tribulus; auch eine ähnliche Landpflanze, Voß Virg. Georg. 1, 153; ἀπὸ τριβόλων σῦκα συλλέγειν, Matth. 7, 16; – Alcaeus bei Ath. II, 38 sagt ὀξύτερος τριβόλων, sauer gewordener Wein, der den Stich hat. – 2) Stichrede, das witzig, epigrammatisch Zugespitzte des Ausdrucks, die Pointe. – 3) bei Ar.
